According to Macquarie dictionary: The fact or state of knowing the perception of fact or truth clear and certain mental apprehension. (www.durantlaw.info)
Von Krogh, Ichijo and Nonaka go further than this and argue that knowledge (what is known) can be in two basic formats either tacit or explicit. (www.tlainc.com)
Tacit knowledge refers to knowledge that resides in a person' s mind and can include aspects of culture or ' ways of doing things '. It can also be tied to the senses , skills in body movement, individual perception, physical experiences , rules of thumb and intuition.
Explicit knowledge can be reffered to as knowledge that has been recorded as information in a document , image, computer data, film clip, and photograph or in some other medium. It can be put on paper, formulated in to sentences, or captured in drawings and specification.
what is knowledge management ?
In every organisation or any work place knowledge management takes place but in different form whether it is like solving problem or improving the result. This will inscrease by sharing ,
acquiring and creating knowledge. This knowledge management is very important in all firms as the day by day competition is increasing to with stand with this we have to manage the knowledge so, to manage the knowledge new things should be brought i.e. innovation is needed.
This knowledge management should be implemented from lower to higher level i.e. from worker to MD. As the staffing decreases there is need of replacement in formal methods with informal knowledge. Due to these conditions the time for acquiring and experiencing the knowledge decreases so management is required at this place. Most of the organisations are working on the knowledge basis only. Using the information will also come in the knowledge management . There is no end for the knowledge as the time passes more techniques are needed and change is need for development. Once a level is achieved in knowledge management then we have to look for the gaps in the organisation and should fulfilled to achieve the higher level in it. Once a best level of knowledge is achieved we have to implement the knowledge management stategy . This stategy will be used to create a vision statement . This vision statement will include overall aims of the stategy and supporting concepts that are going to be used. But we have look in one thing i.e. changes in stategic direction will leads to loss of the knowledge.
So, finally knowledge management is very important resource for every organisation, not only a resource we say it as a primary resource needed for every organisation.
